Support for the Cuban people is a legal and transformative way to travel to Cuba to experience the Camino del Cimarron. The Camino provides guests with unique access to people and places that the average “tourist” rarely sees. Our travelers discover Cuba from the point of view of the people in out of the way places. They will appreciate your presence more than you can imagine. You’ll experience the heart of Cuba and begin to understand why the country maintains such a presence in the conscience of people everywhere. You’ll meet small business owners, artists, musicians, students, inspiring community projects and much more. You will not forget the Camino.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), under direction from the President, regulates travel to Cuba pursuant to the Cuban Assets Control Regulations as part of the U.S. Embargo Against Cuba. Currently there are 12 categories of authorized travel to Cuba including: Family visits; official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; support for the Cuban people; humanitarian projects; activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; exportation, importation, or transmission of information or information materials; and certain authorized export transactions.
As you can see, 11 of the 12 categories of authorized travel to Cuba are extremely narrow in scope. Few Americans qualify. However, Support for the Cuban People travel provides that any American can legally travel to Cuba, provided they engage in a full-time schedule of compliant activities. Travel-related transactions pursuant to this authorization must be for the purpose of engaging, while in Cuba, in a full-time schedule of activities intended to enhance contact with the Cuban people, support civil society in Cuba, or promote the Cuban people’s independence from Cuban authorities.

The Cuban government requires all citizens traveling to Cuba to obtain a Cuban visa prior to their arrival into Cuba. A Cuban visa is also known as a “tourist card.” The Cuban visa is valid for a single entry and allows the holder to stay in Cuba for 30 days. There are a variety of online providers of visas. Contact us at cubancimarron@caminodelcimarron.com for information. Please note: A valid U.S. passport is required for entry into Cuba and for us to obtain your Cuban Visa. If you do not have a valid U.S. passport, you may apply for a new one by visiting the U.S. Passports & International travel website by clicking here.
